Our Emergency Prepardness Moment

Last night our local power went out from about 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Marge, Jenni and I were up looking for flashlights. There were none. Nada. We did find a few candles and matches.

The consequences of "no power" are legion. We just realized that our lives revolve around computers (without batteries), television, lights in dark rooms, adjusting the level of heat in our house, etc. But without power none of these creature comforts work.

As many of you know I sleep with a CPAP unit which helps me avoid snoring and gives Marge (and me) a good night sleep. But last night my CPAP didn't work because we had no electricity. My sleep was crappy. Marge wandered the house trying to find a sleep spot where she wouldn't hear my snoring. We are both exhausted.

So, today I am off to COSTCO to buy flashlights. I am also looking for some good ideas. Do any of you know anything about generators? For the best idea I am willing to give away my Elvis PEZ dispensers. I expect to hear from Dan, Eli, Ben, Nico, Nathan, Sophie and Maddie. Others may also respond.

Well, you could always install a diesel gas pump next to your house; dig a bomb shelter in the back yard, and install the diesel generator in there. Then all you need are extension cords leading to the house... may I suggest some bright orange ones.

Actually, I have a deep cycle marine battery (like a car battery) and an inverter. It's what I use when I go camping to inflate AeroBeds. I have used it to power a TV when the power was out in our house. That should do the trick to power you CPAP when the power is out.
