The Eagles Have Landed in Salt Lake City

Tonight I went with Dave and Jackie to an "Eagles" concert in SLC. Yes, the Eagles. You remember going to their concert when you were a senior Ami. The tickets were also cheaper tonight. For the first half of the concert I enjoyed the music. Good harmony, not too loud, and some old tunes from the late 70's. To name a few:

Lying Eyes
Hotel California
One of Those Nights
Witchy Woman
I Can't Tell you Why
In the Long Run
Life's Been Good to me So Far

The second half was much toooo loud and for me just too much electric guitar, a sound system ready to blow, and uninteligible words--if indeed they were words. I wouldn't know because I couldn't understand. I think I lost some of my hearing and maybe some of my soul.

Dave and Jackie seemed to have enjoyed the whole concert. Mom stayed with Nathan and would not have liked the concert. She can handle "Blues Clues" and the "Wiggles" but not the "Eagles."

The senior member of group was a guy in his 50's named "Hendley." I may have the spelling wrong. Anyway he was a co-founder in 1971 and is still active. There was one other member of the original Eagles. The balance are more recent -- the 90's and later.

Maybe I'm just getting too old. Should I stick with the Lawrence Welk Show?

Anyway, that's my report.

Happy Mothers Day to Marge, Hui, Jackie and all our Daughters.

B. Ray

That's hilarious - two or three of those songs would have been put on the blacklist as you went through my record collection in 1976, but now they're "golden oldies" and you're enjoying the show :)

Now we have to get you to the next Led Zeppelin reunion show ...!

Sounds like you're ready for the mosh pit!

Alex, I had to go to Google to find out what a "mosh pit" is. Looks dangerous and dumb. Anyway if they don't do it on the Lawrence Welk shop it's off limits for a GOG (Grumpy Old Guy) like me.

John, I would like more information about your difficulties with my blacklisting your music. Did I really do that? Was that a violation of your privacy?

Ok- First, dad never blackslisted or scrutinized our music, for cryin out loud. You went to every metal, rock, and head-bangers concert you wanted to, and you probably still have the t-shirts in boxes in your attic to prove it!

Ahem - true story: when I was 14, Mom and Dad went through my (very small) album collection while I was at school, and when I got home they called a solemn PPI to discuss.

The verdict: Steely Dan was acceptable. Boston was questionable, and they recommended that I not listen to some of the tracks. Aerosmith and Kiss were, well, completely out.

I nodded, agreed - and then ran off to band practice to work on "Walk This Way" and "Uncle Salty" with Geoff Zimmerman ...

...which is really interesting because I blasted Aerosmith, Boston, Journey, Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, the Kinks, the Dead Kennedys, etc. all through my high school years without any opposition. It must have been the smelly socks in your bedroom that sent them into a spin :)

Yeah - that and the fact that it clearly made no impact on my listening habits whatsoever ...

So by holding the line on Boston, I paved the way for the Dead Kennedys. I'd hate to think what would have happened if I wasn't around and the first song they heard from their children was "Nazi Punks F*** Off" :))
